I am so grateful to have met you Lava Vine's Charbono

With only 65 acres of the Charbono grape planted in the US, I am one of the lucky ones to have tasted this unique, rich purple almost black wine from the one of my favorite vineyards in Calistoga, Lava Vines. As we opened the Charbono, we anticipated that the it was going to fall in the between a Syrah and Petit Syrah and that was pretty accurate as e told by the wine makers at Lava. It was so full of fruit - plums & blackberries and after watching Somm I have a new tasting descriptor which I would use to describe the Charbono - dried violets. This grape is definitely a force to be reckoned with....I just hope very few people find out about it.
